Retrovibed is a personal media platform that connects content creators and fans in a cooperative ecosystem. It provides private cloud storage for your media and lets you directly support the creators you love — at no extra cost to you.
When you archive content that other users have also archived, the platform deduplicates the underlying storage. Every user who archives a piece of content reduces the total storage cost for everyone holding that content. Since the storage cost is reduced by a fraction of the number of users storing it, it generates a small amount of profit that increases the more users who archive and share.
The base plan is $6/month for 2 TB of storage — roughly half the price of major cloud providers. Usage-based costs (additional storage, etc.) are charged at cost.
The Founders Plan gives early supporters full premium functionality at the personal-plan price. Founders also get reduced rates on extra storage, mobile app access, user management, and a direct voice in feature prioritization. Content creators on the Founders Plan receive 100% of the profits from their archived content. Signups are limited to 1% of the user base.
Creators upload content and mark it for publishing. When fans subscribe and archive that content, the platform generates a profit from storage deduplication and passes it along to the creator. We are targeting 100% of profits for musicians and quality journalism, and no lower than 70% for other media.
Retrovibed is available on Linux (Appimage), Android, macOS, and iOS. A Windows installer is planned after we reach 16k Founders subscriptions.
Yes. All content uploaded to Retrovibed is encrypted. Publishing can be done completely anonymously. The application includes a built-in SOCKS5 proxy and WireGuard VPN support. We do not track you, we do not want to track you, and we limit any data collection strictly to monetized content where it is technically required.
Retrovibed is in public alpha. Expect bugs and rough edges — this phase is critical for gathering feedback and prioritizing features. The alpha requires basic technical proficiency.
First and foremost, neither of those platforms are focused on the relationship between content creators and their fans or ensuring that those creators can make a living.
While they're great tools, in plex's case you're paying for what retrovibed offers for free, a local media library.
Retrovibed is focused on media distribution and revenue generation for content creators and a seamless modern user experience for everyone else.
